About Me
Mrs. Kathy Wong
I have been a School Social Worker at Searingtown since 2019, but have been a part of the Herricks family in other roles since 2013. I received my Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Binghamton University. I am a member of the School Social Work Association.
The Role of a School Social Worker
My job is to support students, parents, and families by running groups, meeting with students individually, and teaching classroom lessons related to social emotional learning. The areas where I can provide support to students include the following: anxiety, age-appropriate socialization and coping skills, divorce, bereavement, behavioral challenges, and academic difficulties. I also assist with locating community resources for families. I truly believe that by addressing a student's social, emotional, mental health, and behavioral needs, this can positively impact academic performance, which then leads to greater success for him or her in the future. I am thankful to be a part of an amazing team of administrators, teachers, school psychologists, school counselors, and school nurses who work very closely together to support our students and families.
I am also thrilled to be part of Searingtown’s Girls on the Run team as an Assistant Coach.
